2 Men Sentenced In Chippewa County For Murder, Attempted Murder

One man was sentenced for murder, and another for attempted murder, in Chippewa County.

On Tuesday, Tyler Delong and Jacob Mckerchie were both sentenced in the 50th Circuit Court.

Delong was convicted back in March for sexually assaulting a childhood friend and stabbing a man in the face who tried to help her.

Both victims survived and testified in the trial.

Delong was sentenced to 30 years in prison for assault with intent to murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and unlawful imprisonment.

He will be eligible to seek parole in 18 and half years.

Jacob Mckerchie was sentenced for murdering his former girlfriend.

He received the maximum penalty of 50 years in prison, and will be eligible for parole after 22 and a half years.

“Sault PD will continue to do its part to ensure that those who choose to commit heinous and evil crimes in our community are brought to tough, swift, and merciless justice,” says Sault Police Chief Wesley Bierling.
