A Noxen woman convicted of vehicular homicide for a drunken-driving crash that killed a 45-year-old motorcyclist in Mountain Top will be re-sentenced in September after absconding from a halfway house, a judge ordered on July 13.
Caitlyn M. Hermanofski, 34, previously pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident and DUI for being drunk and high on Valium while pregnant on June 8, 2010, when her sport utility vehicle collided with a motorcycle driven by Joseph Hauze.
Hauze, an Ashley resident who worked as a plant operator for the Mountain Top Area Joint Sanitary Authority, died two weeks later.
Hermanofski was sentenced in 2012 to serve three to six years in prison followed by four years of probation.
In May, Hermanofski absconded from a halfway house and was accused of violating her probation. She appeared in court Wednesday (July 13) to be re-sentenced due to the probation violation.
At the start of the hearing, Luzerne County Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III said Hermanofski previously admitted to the violation and that she has now also been charged criminally with a felony count of escape.
Defense attorney Max C. Lubin requested a continuance of the re-sentencing due to the pending new case.
Pierantoni agreed and rescheduled the sentencing for Sept. 23 to allow time for the charge to be vetted at a preliminary hearing.
Hermanofski continues to be held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
