Traditionally, the managers of the most recent teams in baseball's World Series get to lead the coaching staff in the following year's MLB All-Star game.
However, after winning the 2019 World Series, Nationals manager Dave Martinez never got that chance.
The COVID-19 pandemic wiped out a majority of the 2020 MLB season including the MLB All-Star game.
That did not sit right with current Nationals League All-Star Manager Brian Snitker.
The manager of the defending champion Atlanta Braves asked Martinez if he would like to participate in this year's Mid-Summer Classic, which Martinez accepted.
"I was so excited when I was I called him and met him outside here to ask him if he would be a part of this because I said he didn't get a chance. He's a World Championship Manager and it was taken away from him by COVID. And I was so I was just beside myself when he said yes, and I'm so happy to have him. I've known Davey for a long time, and I'm glad he's going to be able to celebrate, you know, what he accomplished in 19. And, and join us out in LA it's awesome," Snitker told 7News' Olivia Garvey.
As Martinez told 7Newshe's enjoying, [a] bit of this experience in All-Star Experience in Los Angeles, "This is awesome. I'm seeing some old faces that old teammates, some new guys, you know, and I'm watching the young guys play, and it's been a lot of fun so far, and you're moving on national league as you know, and Juan Soto looking forward to that."
This is not the first time in the All-Star dugout for Martinez, who was also on the coaching staff for the 2018 All-Star game at Nationals Park and was also part of the 2009 and 2017 All-Star coaching staff with the Rays and Cubs.
