  • Today, firefighters in Hunt County are battling a 19-acre fire northeast of Greenville. The Texas A&M Forest Service reported the blaze active but contained as of late this afternoon. The fire is one of several that have popped up around the region during the ongoing heat wave. A small, half-acre fire east of Paris was extinguished earlier today. Outdoor burning has been banned in Hunt, Delta, Hopkins and most other Northeast Texas counties.
  • Fire danger across Northeast Texas on Tuesday has been forecast to reach extreme levels in Hunt County and parts of neighboring counties. Tuesday afternoon high temperatures around 108 combined with southwesterly winds gusting to 30 MPH should create the highest level of fire risk across much of the region.
  • Voluntary water restrictions remain in place in Commerce, where levels in the city’s storage and delivery system remain low following a leak in a major line last week. Commerce residents have been asked not to water outdoors and to limit indoor usage to essential purposes.
  • Elsewhere, communities served by the North Texas Municipal Water District remain under voluntary water use restrictions. The utility serves all of Rockwall County, along with most of Collin and Kaufman counties. The district also serves large parts of Hunt County, as well as parts of Grayson, Fannin, Hopkins, and Rains counties. On Saturday, the North Texas Municipal Water District announced its plant in Wylie had to stop production in order to complete repairs. The district cited high demand as the reason for the unscheduled maintenance. For information on which communities are served by the North Texas Municipal Water District, information is available at the utility’s website, www.ntmwd.com.
