MINERAL COUNTY, W.Va. (WV News) — For the most part, it seems that Frankfort, Keyser, and the rest of the Mountain State’s basketball squads have adapted well to the four-class basketball system.
Recently, however, the WVSSAC did make some changes to the regional and sectional basketball alignments.
These changes do impact both Frankfort and Keyser, who compete, in basketball at least, in separate classes. Frankfort’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams compete in Class AA on the hardwood, while Keyser’s boys’ and girls’ compete in Class AAA.
So, what are those changes to the alignments that affect our Mineral County squads?
Beginning with Frankfort boys’ basketball, where the Falcons compete in Region 1, Section 1, the section will stay the same with Frankfort, Moorefield and Petersburg remaining. In the other section, however, Section 2, Clay County has been moved out, and Trinity Christian and Notre Dame have been moved in, alongside Braxton County and South Harrison.
As for Frankfort girls’ basketball, where the Falcons compete in Region 1, Section 1, the section will stay the same with Frankfort, Moorefield and Petersburg remaining. Region 1, Section 2 will stay the same as well, with Braxton County, Notre Dame, South Harrison, and Trinity Christian remaining.
For the Lady Falcons, therefore, things are unchanged.
With respect to Keyser boys’ basketball, where the Golden Tornado compete in Region 1, Section 2, the section will stay the same with Keyser, Berkeley Springs and Hampshire remaining. In the other section, however, Wheeling Central has been moved to AA, Region 1, Section 1. This leaves North Marion, Oak Glen and Weir in Region 1, Section 1.
