Junior welterweight contender Jack Catterall is crossing his fingers that a rematch comes through with Josh Taylor.

He believes Taylor was forced to go in the rematch direction due to the enormous pressure from the public.

Back in February, Taylor retained the undisputed junior welterweight crown with a controversial twelve round split decision over Catterall.

Taylor has since given up the WBC, WBA titles - because the respective sanctioning bodies ordered him to make mandatory defenses.

When Taylor collides with Catterall for a second time, only the IBF, WBO titles will be at stake.

Taylor explained that he dropped both belts in order to move forward with a plan to settle the score with Catterall.

“I believe he’s under a lot of pressure, from the public as well, for this fight to happen,” Catterall told talkSPORT Fight Night.

“Let’s make no mistake, he’s lost a lot of support since the fight. I think the way he’s carried himself and his words and his actions post-fight. I don’t think there’s any fight for him there at welterweight at the minute, and there’s certainly no one else at 140.”

Catterall tried everything to possible to either change the outcome or get a rematch mandated. He continued to apply pressure through the press and social media, which eventually built up a demand for a second encounter.

“We drew a line under it. We couldn’t change the decision. I think they demoted a referee. There was a couple of letters back-and-forth, but it is what it is,” Catterall said.

“I said it at the time, they stole the moment in time from me. Fighting for the undisputed, that moment has gone now, and it won’t come back around. So, now it’s about rebuilding and getting those world titles. Hopefully, I can go out there and pick two in the next fight.”
