Unemployment numbers show little change in May

The newly released unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show little change from April.

In Baxter County, the rate is at 3%, down from 3.1% in the previous month. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 17th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 501 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,511.

Marion County’s rate stayed flat at 3.3%, the same as April, ranking it as tied for number 28 in the state. Marion County has 204 residents out of work from a work force of 6,247.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate rose from 2.8% in April to 3.1% in May which means they are tied for the 20th lowest rate in the state.. Fulton County has a labor force of 5,053 and 156 unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went up one tenth of a percentage to 4.8% which is ranked number 67 in Arkansas. There are 211 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,385.

In Stone County, the rate was 3.8%, up from 3.7% in April. That ranks Stone County tied for 49th out of 75 counties. There are 4,505 in the labor force in Stone County with 173 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.7% to 3.8% in May, tying them for 49th in Arkansas. There are 117 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 3,048.

Boone County’s rate stayed the same at 3.4%, putting them in a tie for the third lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,381 with 385 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s ninth lowest unemployment rate at 2.7%, up from 2.6% last month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,170 with 85 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s unemployed rate in May was 3.2%, the same as the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate stands at 3.5%, up from 3.2% in April. Ozark County has 125 unemployed out of a work force of 3,538.

Douglas County saw their rate go from 2.4% in April to 2.9% in May. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,208 and there are 152 out of work.

Howell County had a big jump, going from 2.7% last month to 3.3% in May. Howell County has work force of 15,935 with 521 unemployed.

Taney County’s rate stayed the same at 4.3% for the month. There are 1,065 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 24,963.

Missouri’s rate jumped up from 2.4% in April to 2.8% in May.
