Cory McGee Makes Finals of 1500 Meters, Pair of Gators Close Out Competition in Finals

Hakim Sani Brown (100m) and Marquis Dendy (Long Jump) each competed in their respective finals on Saturday night.
EUGENE, Ore. – Hakim Sani Brown made history for his country of Japan on Saturday night, becoming the first Japanese man to make the finals of the 100 meters at the World Championships.
 
Sani Brown, Gator Great and 2019 SEC Champion over 100 meters, qualified to the finals out of the opening semifinal heat in 10.05. He followed that up by going against the world's fastest men, finishing 7th after crossing the line in 10.06.
 
He will also be available for selection later in the competition as the Japanese take to the track in the 4x100 relay. He anchored the team to Bronze at the World Championships in 2019.
 
Raymond Ekevwo (Nigeria) raced in the same semifinal heat as Sani Brown, running 10.20 in his second-straight World Championship appearance.
 
He will also be available for selection as the Nigerians run the heats of the 4x100 relay on Friday evening.
 
Marquis Dendy (USA) recorded his best-ever finish at a World Outdoor Championships on Saturday night.
 
He was 6th in the Long Jump after jumping out to 8.02m on his third attempt of the competition.
 
Gator Great Cory McGee (USA) earned an automatic spot to Monday's final of the Women's 1500 meters.
 
She crossed the line in 4:02.74, earning the final auto-qualifying position in a fast opening-semifinal heat.
 
This will be her first ever final at the World Championships and marks the third Gator, along with Sani Brown and Dendy, to make finals in their respective events in Eugene.
 
Jasmine Moore (USA) competed in the Triple Jump on Saturday, bounding out to a mark of 14.24m on her third attempt of the afternoon.
 
She came up three centimeters of a spot in the finals, finishing in 13th in the world. Her time at the World Championships is not over with the Long Jump competition yet to come later in the week.
 
Grant Holloway (USA) cruised through the opening heat of the 110-meter hurdles, taking the top qualifying mark at 13.14.

He will attempt to defend his World Title in the event tomorrow. The semifinals will be contested at 8:05 PM EDT.
 
The top eight runners will head to the finals which are set to be run at 10:30 PM EDT.
 
Tomorrow's competition will feature the opening day of the Heptathlon for Anna Hall. She will contest the first four events on Sunday and the final three on Monday.
 
Talitha Diggs, Benji Lobo Vedel and Champion Allison will debut on the track for the heats of the 400 meters tomorrow afternoon.
