Dan Sterling Rogers February 24, 1962- July 9, 2022

Dan Sterling Rogers, age 60, passed away on July 9 at his home in Monticello, UT after a long journey with Huntington’s disease and its complications.
Dan was born on February 24, 1962 to Fredrick “Buck” Rogers and Edna Rose Palmer Rogers in Monticello, where he spent most of his life near friends and family.
He attended Monticello Elementary school and graduated from Monticello High School in 1980. He served in the Torreon Mexico and Dallas Texas missions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended Utah State University and finished a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University.
Dan met his wife, Elisa Whimpey, in Provo. They were married June 25, 1988. They moved to Las Vegas, NM where Dan earned a master’s degree in Social Work and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
After school, the couple lived for a year in Monument Valley, then returned to Monticello. Dan worked for San Juan Counseling for 28 years. He raised four daughters.
Dan was kind, caring, the best listener, quiet, but also incredibly funny. When he had to quit working, everywhere we went, people would stop him to say hi and ask him how he was doing . He was a positive influence in so many people’s lives.
Elisa learned quickly that if she was in a hurry, don’t take Dan to the grocery store. He would stop and talk to everyone.
Dan loved to help people through his work and church service. He lovingly counseled families and individuals, directed San Juan Counseling for a time, worked with the Native American population, ran a sex offender treatment program at the jail, participated in drug treatment programs, became an EMT, served on the city council, held many church positions, and just plain helped people, just to name a few.
Dan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had an unwavering testimony of his Savior and the Plan of Happiness. He was a faithful priesthood holder and used it to bless the lives of those around him.
While serving his mission in Mexico (and Texas), Dan said that the things he missed the most were his family and the Blue Mountains. Dan loved fishing, hunting, shooting, riding four wheelers, camping, family vacations, beaches, and golfing!!!
Dan’s greatest accomplishment in life is his wife and four daughters. He really cared for them, and it showed when he sat through chick flicks, attended most athletic and cheer events for his girls.
He even jumped rope, rode bikes, shot hoops, and loved the father daughter dances. Even with the health challenges he faced, his girls never doubted he loved them and would be there to support them.
Dan spent most of his life dealing with health problems. Through it all, he had the best attitude. Some would complain and think it unfair, but he just carried on and kept moving forward.
He also had a strong testimony of the resurrection, knowing the pain he was enduring was only temporary. His suffering is over and he is living the dream. Well done!
Dan is preceded in death by his father Fredrick “Buck” Aaron Rogers, and his brother Martin “Marty” James Rogers.
He is survived by his mother Edna Rose Rogers, brothers Alan (Juli) Rogers and Dwight (Linda) Rogers, wife Elisa, daughters Kara (Sean) Getter, Ashley (Erik) Madsen, Amy (Michael) Isom, and Kylie Rogers, and grandchildren Kinsley, Halle, Tanner, Addison, Emery, and Theodore.
