Purdue received its first men’s basketball commitment from the class of 2024 on Thursday evening. Jack Benter, a shooting guard from Brownstown Central (Ind.), announced on his Twitter account that he would play collegiately for the Boilermakers.

Along with Purdue, Indiana State and Liberty had offered the 6-foot-4, 180-pounder. Benter, whose father is longtime Brownstown Central head coach Dave Benter, was part of a Braves team that went 22-4 in the 2021-22 season, including a 7-1 mark in Mid-Southern Conference play. They ultimately fell to Beech Grove in a regional semifinal.

Per IndyStar’s Kyle Neddenriep, Benter had a shooter’s touch from distance during the previous season, sinking just under 45 percent of his shots from 3-point range.

Purdue was 29-8 (14-6 B1G) in 2021-22. It advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2019, where it ultimately fell to Final Four participant and tournament Cinderella team St. Peters.
