Tony Vitello To Serve As Analyst On MLB Draft Broadcast

Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello will serve as an analyst on the MLB Draft broadcast during Sunday night’s first round, the Vols’ head coach said on The Drive Thursday afternoon.

The MLB Network broadcasts the first round of the MLB Draft and Vitello and UCLA coach John Savage will serve as analysts on the MLB Network set.

Tennessee is set to be well represented during the 20-round draft including Sunday’s first round.

Draft eligible outfielders Jordan Beck and Drew Gilbert are projected first round selections while right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell is projected right outside the first round.

UConn two-way star Reggie Crawford committed to Tennessee baseball earlier this week, but the LHP and power-hitting first basemen could hear his name called as early as the first round.

Vitello joked that if Crawford is selected in the first round he’s going to throw his clipboard on the MLB Network desk as the former UConn star will never make it to Knoxville.

Left-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings was the last Tennessee player selected in the first round of the MLB Draft. The Chicago White Sox drafted their now reliever with the 11th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

The Washington Nationals selected Tennessee signee Brady House with the 11th pick in last year’s MLB Draft.
