City by City: Littlefork, West Duluth, Moose Lake
Littlefork-Big Falls, MN- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety recently awarded $3.7 million to fund stop arm cameras statewide. Littlefork-Big Falls received about $38,000 for 13 cameras. The cameras will help enforce Stop Arm Violations and keep students safe. State law requires all vehicles to stop when a bus’ arm is down and lights are flashing. Minnesota bus drivers observed as many as a thousand violations in a day in 2022. Eastrange Academy in Eveleth also received funding for two cameras.
West Duluth, MN- Residents in West Duluth will start seeing more construction equipment in the area. The DNR is working to restore fish and wildlife habitats at Perch Lake beginning in late July. Restoration efforts include dredging about 77,000 cubic yards of sediment and material replacement. A sixteen-foot culvert will also be installed under Highway 23 to increase water flow and fish passage between Perch Lake and the St. Louis River. Construction is set to last until March 2023. Highway 23 and the Marten Trail will remain open.
Moose Lake, MN- Taking place Saturday and Sunday, Agate Days returns for its 52nd year. Festivities start with a pancake breakfast then a Gem and Mineral Show in Riverside Arena. There will also be Art in The Park in Moose Lake City Park and a Craft and Vendor’s Show hosted by Our New Adventures. There will also be an Agate Stampede on Elm Avenue for children. The Gem and Mineral Show and Art in the Park are free.
