Tyra Banks will be seeing a familiar face across the dance floor on “Dancing with the Stars” next season.
The executive producer and host for the beloved dance competition show will be welcoming Alfonso Ribeiro as the new co-host. It’ll be a first for Ribeiro as co-host, but his history with the show goes back for many years.
As Variety reported, in 2014 he was the champion of the show’s 19th season, alongside his professional dance partner Witney Carson; and he appeared as a guest judge during Season 21.
This won’t even be the first time he’s worked with Tyra Banks.
Sitcom fans will remember Ribeiro as Carlton Banks on the iconic ’90s sitcom “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” And it was that show on which Banks made her acting debut, appearing in seven episodes in the fourth season.
This coming season of “Dancing with the Stars” will be the third consecutive season for Banks as host, and should be extra-special for the former supermodel who cut her hosting chops on “America’s Next Top Model” from 2003-2015, and again in 2017.
“I’ve known Alfonso since I was 19 years old,” said Banks in a press release, “and he always puts a smile on my face whenever I see him. Having such a fun-loving, longtime friend as co-host warms my heart. Plus, he’s won the competition before, so he knows exactly what the stars are going through. Bantering back and forth with him live is going to be so much fun!”
And it sounds like Ribeiro is equally as pumped to join "DWTS."
“‘Dancing with the Stars’ has been such an important part of my life for so many years,” said Ribeiro, “and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as co-host. Tyra and I have a longstanding friendship that I hope will resonate with all of the fans at home as we kick off this new season on Disney+.”
Having been a hit on ABC since it debuted in 2005, "DWTS" now moves over to Disney+ for its 31st season.
The judges from last season – Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough – will all return.
No date for the season premiere has been announced yet.
