WILKINSON COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- A semi-truck driver was cited after a multi-vehicle crash in Wilkinson County on Wednesday.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver was heading north on Hwy. 441 around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The driver, who GSP said was driving too fast for rainy conditions, crashed on Hwy. 441 near its intersection with Macedonia Church Rd.
The trailer jackknifed, went into the center median, and crossed over to the southbound side of Hwy. 441, eventually coming to rest across the northbound lanes.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Ford pickup truck swerved out of the way to avoid hitting the trailer, with the Jeep hitting a culvert and the Ford coming to rest off the roadway without any damage.
A Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) officer determined the semi-truck driver also failed to conduct a pre-trip inspection. The officer found that one of the truck's wheels was recently taken off to change out the brakes, and the lug nuts hadn't been properly tightened.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions.
