Traveling watercolor exhibit on display

The Clarke County Arts Council is sponsoring a free watercolor exhibit now through the end of July at Lakeside Hotel and Casino. The exhibit, located inside the events center entrance, features 31 watercolor paintings completed by artists from around Iowa, and is made possible through the Iowa Watercolor Society.

Each year, the Iowa Watercolor Society (IWS) chooses a few communities in Iowa to be part of a traveling show. Selected watercolor works from members of IWS are displayed for two months at each location before the exhibit moves on to the next. Osceola is the last stop of this year’s tour - the previous towns to feature the watercolor works were Greenfield, Winterset, Corning and Council Bluffs.

“We are really privileged to have this [exhibit],” said Clarke Area Arts Council artist and member Mary Ellen Kimball.

In addition to the exhibit, a free watercolor demonstration will be held on Thursday, July 28 from 11 to 2 in the casino’s event center. Three watercolor artists will each paint a different picture that visitors may watch from start to finish, or come and go as they please. Light refreshments will be served, and a free watercolor print will be available at the end. Members from IWS will also be on hand to answer any questions about the traveling exhibit.
