Fair season rolls into Northeast Nebraska

HARTINGTON — Area residents anxious for the sights and sounds of a country fair don't have to wait long.

The annual Cedar County Fair begins next Wednesday for its five-day run.

Anyone that wants to get a jump on the Cedar County extravagana has two options this weekend.

The Dixon County Fair begins this Thursday in Concord. The Dixon County fair features a Love-A-Lot petting zoo, antique machinery exhibit and the River City carnival open daily.

Here’s a look at what else is on the schedule:

Wednesday and Thursday are set aside for 4-H with entries being dropped off and judged, as well as the 4-H horse show, bucket calves and open class beef show. On Thursday, Farmer’s Pride is sponsoring a free breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. The Pioneer Farm Award and 4-H Volunteer Awards will be given at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The fun continues Friday with a modified and antique tractor pull set for 11 a.m. The open class beef, rabbit and poultry shows will also be held Friday. And then make way for some big-time entertainment when Billie J. Comedy takes the grandstand at 5:30 p.m. Country singer Angie K on Stage is up next at 7:30 p.m. Rock/country singer Ben Grillet takes the stage later at 9 p.m.

Saturday night's entertainment will feature the demo derby at 7:30 p.m.

Randolph is also slated to hold its annual Community Fair this weekend.

Activities in Randolph begin at 9 p.m. Thursday when the Randolph Youth Football program hostd a movie in the park. “Little Giants” will be shown on the big screen starting at 9 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available.

Also new this year is a craft show hosted by the Randolph Senior Center set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Lied Randolph Public Library will once again host a Family Fun Night Friday, July 8. Fire truck rides will follow the program Friday night.

Saturday’s festivities kick off with a fun run/walk at 8 a.m. at the city park. There’s no entry fee for the half-mile, mile or two-mile event.

The traditional livestock show will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the Randolph Senior Center will be serving lunch.

A block party in downtown Randolph will start at 8:30 p.m. with music by DJ Axel Alvarez.

The weekend’s festivities will end Sunday, July 10, with a jam-packed schedule.

One of the most popular events every year, the fireman’s omelet breakfast, will start at 8 a.m. at the city auditorium. An ecumenical church service at the park will take place at 9 a.m. at the baseball field.

Antique cars and tractors will line the streets downtown for the annual Randolph FFA Booster Car and Tractor Show.

Sunday evening, the Knights of Columbus will host the kids’ pedal tractor pull at the city park beginning at 5 p.m. with participation limited to ages 4-13.

Inflatables and games will be held at the city park starting at 5:30 p.m.
