The Spider-Man Universe franchise continues to expand further as Sony is developing more films surrounding the characters in the Spider-Man comics with one of them being Madame Web. For the past few months, we've been hearing a lot of news and updates regarding the film and now it looks like we have another one as they recruited a new cast member.
According to Deadline, The Upshaws star Mike Epps has joined the cast of Madame Web. The details regarding his mysterious role in the film are under wraps for now. S.J. Clarkson is directing the film. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay.
The cast already includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, and Emma Roberts. The film is described as an "origin story of the clairvoyant, whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world." Due to her psychic sensory powers, she is being described as Sony's version of Doctor Strange. It will be the first female-led film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe franchise.
Epps is currently known for starring in the Netflix comedy series The Upshaws and has three stand-up comedy specials on the streamer as well. He also starred in films such as Next Friday, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, The Hangover, Girls Trip, Uncle Drew, and Dolemite Is My Name. He also recently guest-starred in the HBO series Winning Time where he played Richard Pryor.
It is interesting to hear Epps being cast in the film since he is mostly known as a comedian and the question that immediately comes to mind is whether he will play a comedic role or a dramatic one instead. However, he is a talented actor and he is a great addition to the cast that is slowly growing as they're heading to production soon. Let's just wait and see for more updates on the film and whether they will finally reveal the roles of the cast.
