After accidentally shooting himself with his firearm during a training exercise, a member of the State Police Academy in New Braintree is expected to rejoin his classmates on Thursday morning, according to Dave Procopio, director of Media Communications for the Massachusetts State Police.

The trainee, who hasn’t been identified to the public, was treated for superficial injuries to his leg at UMass Medical Center and has since been released, Procopio said.

The incident will be investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Division of Standards and Training, according to Procopio.
