PEORIA (WEEK) - The family of 21-year-old Mariah Moss stood somber at a memorial in front of her home, mourning her death.

“Everyone that Mariah came in contact with loved Mariah - to know Mariah is to love her,” Moss’s Godmother Lorraine Washington said.

On Saturday, 21-year-old Mariah Moss was killed at the Green Briar Apartments in Peoria. Moss was found with a single gunshot wound to the upper body.

“It Hurts,” Moss’s mother Alexandria Hall said.

Hall traveled from Texas when she heard the news of her daughter’s passing.

Although only in Peoria for a year - Those near her said Moss captured their hearts and gained a spiritual family along with making her own.

“It’s just left an empty hole,” Moss’s Spiritual Aunt Trina White said.

Moss was the mother of a one-year-old son, Remy, and his father now facing the fact that Remy will grow up without a mother.

“It hurts, my son will never get to talk to his mom again. He’ll never get to see her,” Father of Remy Alexander Black said.

Her friends said Moss was working to get her GED, had got a job as a head chef and was working and volunteering at the shelter where she once slept.

“Although Mariah has faced different trials she never allowed herself to be her circumstances,” White said.

Police arrested 24-year-old Kaitlyn Taylor for Moss’s homicide.

“Mariah did not deserve what happened to her. Her life was taken way too soon over something that was just uncalled for,” White said.
