In two days, roughly 15 cars were broken into at Tapestry Park at Montclair Apartments in Birmingham, according to people who live there.
Residents said it’s not the first time break-ins have happened. Some residents are scared the break-ins will continue and worry their homes could be next.
Taylor Amundsen’s fiancé’s truck was broken into over the weekend. His passport was stolen.
"It is frustrating," Amundsen said. "I wake up every couple of hours during the night just to make sure that my car is not stolen.”
Residents believe tighter security could have prevented the break-ins.
Amundsen added “I’ve been here almost two years and I would say the gates worked about five percent of the time that I’ve been here.”
She feels managers are not listening to their complaints.
“I’ve emailed almost everyday.”
Some people living at the complex are stepping up their security to protect themselves and their property.
Resident Danice Carlisle said “I’ve gotten a ring doorbell. I’ve gotten a ring camera and I don’t park my car here over night. I have to go somewhere else because I don’t feel safe.”
She added “my boyfriend has a Glock and we got more bullets.”
Andrew Oldhan also lives at Tapestry Park at Montclair Apartments.
"You got guys and ladies, residents here sitting on their balcony at night watching out making sure that things they paid their own money for, they bought aren’t getting broken into and stolen," he said. "That’s not a good way of life that you want to have to deal with.”
Katie Zeigler even sent a safety plan to managers.
She said “I have sent a detailed implantation plan but of course that’s just a suggestion from a paying resident.”
Apartment managers on-site Wednesday did not give answers but they did say corporate officials were expected to respond.
Birmingham Police said they are investigating the break-ins and have increased patrols in the area.
