Bedford native promoted to AA returns to New Hampshire in Fisher Cats-Yard Goats matchup
Grant Lavigne, a Bedford native, was playing for a single-A minor league team all the way across the country until he got the call up to a double-A New England team.
On Wednesday night, he took the field against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in his home state. Lavigne played at Delta Dental Stadium for the visiting Hartford Yard Goats.
“We got a very early morning text from Grant on Monday saying that he was coming home, so it was great,” said Kevin Lavigne, Grant’s father.
He was playing for the single-A Spokane Indians before he got the call for the AA Connecticut team.
The crowd was cheering when he took to the plate for his first at-bat as his baseball journey came full circle on Wednesday.
“We’re probably more nervous than he is,” Kevin Lavigne said. “He’s pretty steady, he’s an even-keeled kid.”
He has quite the list of accomplishments.
He led Bedford High School to the state championship game four times, playing all of them at Delta Dental Stadium, he was a WMUR Hometown Hero in 2018 and earned player of the month in the Colorado Rockies organization.

His parents are proud and happy he's closer to home.
“Just enjoying him being two hours away and watching him play on a much more regular basis,” Kevin Lavigne said.
He is back in a familiar place, even if it is in the visitors’ dugout.
“When I first got drafted in 2018, most of these guys were actually on that team and I played with them in 2018, 2019, so I pretty much know all these guys and we're all pretty close so it’s good to see them again,” Grant Lavigne said.
Lavigne will be back four more times to play the Fisher Cats this week at Delta Dental Stadium.
