Spartanburg County man dies after crash while running from law enforcement, troopers say

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - One person is dead after they tried to flee from deputies and crashed into a tree in Spartanburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, the crash happened at around 4:18 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to stop an SUV near the intersection of Hwy. 221 and Canaan Road. They said the vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and continued driving away toward County Club Road.

This is when the suspect crashed his vehicle.

Troopers said the vehicle was traveling east on Canaan Road when they traveled off the right side of the road hitting a tree while trying to flee from law enforcement.

The coroner identified the driver as 44-year-old Ernest Dwayne Miller. He passed away at Spartanburg Regional.
