GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — With the concern about safety, NBC 26 wanted to know if Green Bay police are increasing their presence at large events.

Given the tragedy that unfolded on the 4th of July in Highland Park, some people are saying they thought twice about going to the Farmers Market on Wednesday.

"I usually think twice about everywhere I go now," Elizabeth Pyatt said.

"Since I'm a father now, I mean yeah, I'm always worried about my daughter," Erik Larscheid said.

But others say they aren't too worried.

"I don't want fear to manage my life," Stephanie Brosig said.

You will find police officers at any large event in Green Bay, whether it's the Farmers Market or any other mass gathering.

"We recognize the risk that's present there when we put that many people in a small space," Green Bay Police Department Sgt. Tom Denney said. "And we take the safety and their security very importantly."

Which is why Denney says that anytime there is a large event, the police department puts together a comprehensive security plan.

For example at the Farmers Market, there's safety barriers and officers in place monitoring the crowd.

"I have seen a huger police presence today," Brosig said.

"I feel safe to be here with my family right now," Larscheid said.

Denney says officers also keep a close eye on trends happening nationally and globally.

"You know unfortunately, we have constant reminders of the terrible things that happen at mass gatherings," Denney said.

Denney says there is no concrete plan to change any one aspect of its security protocols right now, but especially with what's been happening in Highland Park and other places, he says changes are always being considered and improvements can be made.

"We'd be fools to say that we have it perfect and there's no room for improvement," Denney said. "There's always room for improvement."

And while officers are checking on the safety of everyone, people are trying to make the most out of the event.

"Overall, I just come here to have a good time," Larscheid said.
