Hundreds got to fill up their tanks for $0.76 per gallon on Wednesday at the 76 station on the Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike in Forest during the 3rd-annual customer appreciation event.
"$8.10 sweetie," said one 76 station employee.
That was the price for some folks' full tank.
"I'm just happy," Patsy Word said.
"Thank you, Lord," said one customer.
"I'm gonna have a smile on my face from here to North Carolina," Sharon Word said.
Some folks waited hours for the deal, which ran from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
"I got here around 9:45 a.m.," Word said.
"Almost 10:00 a.m.," said a customer.
"I got here about quarter to 11:00 a.m.," said another.
Some even drove in from out of the area.
"I'm from Greensboro, North Carolina," Word said.
"I came from Brookneal," one man said.
This was all for a near miracle: $0.76 per gallon of gas. Everyone said it was a price well worth the time and heat.
"Oh my goodness. It's gonna save me about $25 or more," Word said.
"I'm gonna end up saving probably about 80 dollars because it cost me a hundred-something to fill this thing up," said one truck driver.
"I'm thinking to save 30 plus dollars or more," Word said.
With savings like that, folks all agreed on one thing.
"This is just a blessing. As high as prices are, to get it at that price, we're taking advantage of it," said Patsy.
"It's a blessing. It's outrageous right now. I pray that other people do it because we need help out here," said Sharon.
