ROCKLAND — Deputy Chief Metcalf hired Tim Carroll as a fledgling patrol officer in 1991. Most recently, Chris Young held the position of chief for the same Rockland Police Department. On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, both former chiefs sat in attendance as Carroll received City Council approval to be the next leader of the department.

“I just want to take this time to welcome Tim to the City of Rockland,” said City Manager Tom Luttrell. “We look forward to your leadership. You’ve got a great crew of men and women behind you that are anxious to get started, and support you.”

Along with the former chiefs, several members of RPD showed their support by attending, as did the heads of other City departments.

“I’m very excited to take on this role,” said Carroll. “I think this is a fantastic group of professionals that already exist in the Rockland Police Department. It’s a top-notch. It’s always had the respect. I look forward to working with all of the members here.”

In starting his new role on July 11, Carroll’s salary will be $115,000, and his contract has no end date, according to Luttrell.
