(KNSI) – The Foley Police Department is hosting its first-ever root beer float social Thursday afternoon. The event is scheduled to run from 1:00 to 3:00, or until the sweet treats are gone, at city hall.

Police Chief Katie McMillin says it is difficult to plan for an inaugural event, but she thinks the department is ready for a big crowd.

“Right now, I have four liters of root beer and about two gallons of ice cream,” she says.

The goal is to create another opportunity for citywide engagement, hot on the heels of last month’s Foley Fun Days.

“I look for different ways we could branch out as a police department and reach different people in our community, and how we can connect with them and how they can easily connect with us,” McMillin says.

Most of these types of events are in the summer, but not all. McMillin says she sees good participation at the Halloween safety course the department offers in October.
