A Florida woman, Dorothy Annette Conkle, 27, was charged in the fentanyl death of a 26-year-old woman.
On March 19th, 2021, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a suspected drug overdose at a residence on Panama City Beach.
The victim, a 26-year-old woman, was found unresponsive in her bed by a family member. Life-saving measures were administered by responding deputies and EMS personnel and the victim was transported to a local hospital.
Investigators with the BCSO Criminal Investigations Division and Special Investigations Division responded and began conducting an investigation into the incident to identify the source of the drugs that the victim had used. Evidence was located that identified fentanyl as the illegal substance that the victim had ingested prior to being found in her bedroom.
The victim passed away in the hospital on March 24th, 2021.
Using physical evidence found at the scene, investigators were able to identify Conkle as the source of the fentanyl sold to the victim.
The victim purchased the fentanyl the night prior to the overdose. The investigation continued for several months and toxicology from the victim’s autopsy revealed that a lethal amount of fentanyl was present in her blood at the time she was found and admitted into the hospital.
The victim’s cause of death was listed as a drug overdose.
By working with prosecutors with the 1st and 14th Judicial Circuits throughout the course of this investigation, an arrest warrant for Dorothy Annette Conkle was issued on July 5th, 2022, for Culpable Negligence Manslaughter and Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute.
On the afternoon of July 5th, 2022, BCSO investigators located Conkle at her residence on Treasure Palm Drive in Panama City Beach and placed her under arrest.
She was booked into the Bay County Jail on Culpable Negligence Manslaughter, Possession of Fentanyl, and an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant.
