Third baseman Yoan Moncada is hurt again, although this latest ailment might not keep him off the field for too long.

Moncada left the White Sox’ 9-8, 10-inning victory Wednesday against the Twins with a bruise after fouling a pitch off his right foot in the sixth inning. He usually wears a foot guard, but he wasn’t wearing one.

X-rays were negative on Moncada, who has fouled pitches off his foot in each of the last two games. The Sox said he is day-to-day.

‘‘He tried to go that half-inning, but it’s sore,’’ manager Tony La Russa said. ‘‘[Thursday] will be here in a hurry, but we’ll see.’’

Moncada was replaced in the field by Josh Harrison in the top of the seventh. He has played in only 37 of the Sox’ 80 games because of oblique, hamstring and quad injuries.

Burger, Velasquez land on IL

Infielder Jake Burger, who played second base in the ninth inning Tuesday and turned a double play, went on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his right hand, making room for outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the active roster.

Burger’s playing time had been limited, especially since Moncada came off the IL last week. He had one plate appearance since June 26.

Right-hander Vince Velasquez went on the 15-day IL with a blister on his right index finger, and right-hander Jimmy Lambert was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. Signed to a $3 million free-agent deal in March, Velasquez has a 5.21 ERA in 14 games, including eight starts. He has allowed six earned runs over 4„ innings in his last three outings.

‘‘Vince has had some trouble with the finger, so we’ll try to get that well,’’ La Russa said.

Velasquez didn’t pitch between May 24 and June 15 because of a strained groin.

Second sacker?

The Sox lead the majors with 52 errors, and Burger is second on the team with six. (Shortstop Tim Anderson has 10.) La Russa, however, didn’t rule out Burger playing more second base in his career.

‘‘He’s already shown he’s got quick feet,’’ La Russa said. ‘‘His range is OK, would be good. There have been guys playing second base in the big leagues over the years that if they had that productive bat and they could make the routine plays, they were a big help. So, yeah, the answer is I definitely think so.’’

With eight home runs in 183 plate appearances, Burger’s homer percentage of 4.4 leads the team.

This and that

Jose Abreu extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double in the first.

Dylan Cease, who will start Thursday, is 10-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 11 career starts against the Tigers.

• The Sox and Notre Dame announced the creation of the Ed Farmer Media Endowment for Excellence, which will give scholarships annually to students in the university’s sport, media and culture minor or in the journalism, ethics and democracy program.

Farmer, the late Sox radio voice, was a huge Irish football fan.
