Pike County arrested after tossing bag of drugs and fleeing police

arrest-9

After a brief chase, a Pike County man who had driven away from a traffic stop was apprehended and charged with drug trafficking.

Just north of the cut-through, a state trooper observed Scott Hurley, 41, of Pikeville, traveling at 70 mph on U.S. 23. Hurley pulled onto Bypass Road after police attempted to stop him, but he continued to drive.

The officer saw him throw a bag out his window as he was doing this. He then made a U-turn and traveled on the opposite side of the street until stopping next to a Dairy Queen.

The bag, which was allegedly filled with both heroin and a significant amount of meth, was retrieved by the trooper.

Hurley was detained and charged with trafficking in meth and heroin along with fleeing, tampering with evidence, as well as several traffic violations.
