Former Auburn football HC Gus Malzhan gave his own Orlando twist to a slogan popular on the Plains (State of Auburn) and got disastrous results on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

While Auburn invented memes, this specific slogan was not invented by the Auburn family — having been popularized before from programs like Memphis, fellow AAC contender Cincinnati, and in-state rival Miami in the past.

Malzahn posted the hashtag #StateOfOrlando and got severe pushback from fans of ‘The U’ as well as some Florida fans who may have forgotten the results of this past December’s Gasparilla Bowl. Florida State fans knew to sit this one out.

Here are some of the rival Sunshine State schools’ fans’ reactions, which in truth was mostly angered Miami fans, to Malzahn’s unpopular post:

A few Auburn football fans chimed in to point out the facts in support of their former head coach:

Former Auburn football HC Gus Malzahn runs the best CFB program in Florida

Even if you choose not to recognize UCF’s 2017 National Championship, won by knocking off Auburn football in the 2018 Peach Bowl, it’s undeniable that the Knights are the best program in Florida at the moment. Neither Miami and Florida State have won more than eight games since the 2017 season, while Florida finds itself in a similarly precarious recruiting position to Auburn at the moment given Billy Napier’s struggles transitioning to the SEC.

When it comes to stability and future prospects, Malzahn and co. have everyone else in their state beat. The Big 12 is out here poaching programs from the Pac-12 because UCF (and Cincinnati, BYU, and Houston) are on the way in 2023.

It’s not the #StateOfOrlando yet, but things certainly appear to be heading that way with Malzahn dominating the recruiting trail and adding more 5-stars to the trio he has already brought to Central Florida.
