A 73-year-old man died in prison on Wednesday morning at the Snake River Correctional Institution, the Oregon Department of Corrections said.

William Doyle Roberts, 73, of Linn County, was in the infirmary on hospice care, officials said.

Roberts was serving a life sentence for murder and entered DOC custody on August 16, 1979.

According to an article from the Albany Democrat-Herald, Johnson pleaded guilty to the murder charge related to the killing of a man who was fishing along the Muddy Creek near Harrisburg, Oregon.

Corrections officials said they have notified Oregon State Police of Roberts’ death, which is standard protocol with all in-custody deaths.
