Projects awarded Get in the Cloud funds

The CloudCorp Get in the Cloud grant program awarded $150,000 to four Cloud County businesses.
The Get In The Cloud Grant Program is an aggressive approach to recruiting small business in Cloud County. The program awards 50% of startup costs up to $50,000 on a competitive basis to business owners looking to open their doors in Cloud County.
“At the end of April we were awarded $80,000,” said CloudCorp executive director Nicole Reed. “In May I went back to the (county) commissioners and visited with them about our original request for $150,000. The commissioners looked at the businesses applying for grants and awarded us an additional $70,000.”
The businesses receiving $50,000 grants are:
JKCC Print & Design, a commercial printing company owned and operated by Bobby and Jessica Knudsen.
The Knudsens are moving their business from Paola, Kansas, to a warehouse in Glasco that they purchased in December.
Rock Island RV Park, a 10-15 spot RV Park/Tourist Camp in Clyde. Mike and Leah Cook, owners of Gallagher Plumbing and Heating Inc. as well as Green Street Liquor in Clyde, will operate the business. One purpose of this camp is to house pipe liners and wind farm crews for extended periods of time as they work in the area.
The businesses receiving $25,000 grants are:
Einstein Sewing Workshop with Cynthia Monier. Monier is working to open and operate a multifaceted sewing and fiber arts studio that will be established in downtown Miltonvale. The business would be developed incrementally to provide sewing services and sewing/fiber arts instruction. Custom work and monogram services will also be offered. Monier has already made a large personal investment in materials, building, equipment and furniture.
Concordia Collision Repair. Co-owners James Kindel, Quinn Kindel and Bob Mikesell have partnered up to continue to expand on current services with a new business located at 611 East First Street. Concordia Collision Repair had already improved the value of the property and made it more aesthetically pleasing through the clean up efforts and removal of old trailers and equipment as well as spreading rock on the drives. The business already has commitments from customers scheduled for repairs and body shop work. An expansion will allow for more employees as well as more shop productivity.
“I'm excited that four communities in our county are represented,” Reed said. “This is really great for Cloud County.”
The decision to award the funds rests solely with the CloudCorp Get in the Cloud grant committee, with final approval of the awardee slate by the Cloud County board of commissioners.
