A man has been charged following a shooting in Pound Monday, according to police.
Police responded to the 17000 block of Tompkins Road following a 911 call Monday evening. Prior to police arriving, the male victim was taken to Dickenson County Hospital in a personal vehicle, according to authorities. The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and was later transferred to Johnson City Medical Center for further treatment and was released, authorities said.
According to the Wise County Sheriff's Office, statements that were obtained indicated the victim and his girlfriend had gone to the residence of Morgan Tompkins. A confrontation took place between Tompkins and the victim, which eventually resulted in Tomkins firing multiple rounds, striking the victim in the leg, according to police.
Tompkins, 42, was charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He has posted bond.
