Donald Fredres

The man convicted of shooting and killing a Sheridan couple has started serving his lifetime prison sentence.

Thirty-eight-year-old Donald Fredres of Sandwich arrived at the Stateville Correctional Center on Tuesday. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of killing Gregory and Brenda Barnes. Fredres was also given 26 years for the attempted murder of his ex-wife.

The crimes occurred March 16th of last year. Fredres shot and killed his ex-in-laws after they refused to tell him where their daughter lived. Fredres eventually found his ex-wife's home in Sheridan. He fired into her front door but never gained entry.

Fredres didn't testify during his trial and he didn't speak before his sentencing.
