The Portland Trail Blazers officially announced the acquisition of forward Jerami Grant on Wednesday.
The deal that primarily sent a 2025 first-round pick to the Detroit Pistons for Grant, 28, was negotiated prior to the June 23 NBA draft but couldn’t be announced until July 6.
In the deal, the Blazers received Grant and the draft rights to Ismael Kamagate (46th overall pick in 2022) in exchange for Milwaukee’s 2025 first-round pick, acquired in the trade that sent CJ McCollum to New Orleans, draft rights to Gabriele Procida (36th overall pick), and second-round picks in 2025 and 2026.
The Blazers reportedly traded the rights to Kamagate to Denver. That deal will officially be announced later today.
“Jerami Grant is a dynamic two-way forward that can impact winning at a high level,” Blazers general manager Joe Cronin said in a prepared statement. “He fits seamlessly into Coach Billups’ system on both sides of the ball. We could not be happier to have him in Portland.”
The Blazers will introduce Grant and guard Gary Payton II, signed as a free agent, on Thursday.
Grant averaged 19.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season while shooting 42.6% from the field and 35.8% on threes.
He is expected to start at power forward.
As compensation for Kamagate, the Blazers received a 2024 second-round pick. That pick will be the most favorable of the respective second-round picks belonging to Minnesota and Charlotte.
