A 48-year-old Pontiac woman who was severely beaten and raped a few weeks ago continues to recover from her injuries while her alleged attacker sits in the Oakland County Jail and faces several felony charges.

The accused, Demagio Redmond, 26,  is charged with assault with intent to murder, kidnapping and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct-multiple variables for the June 17 incident in Pontiac. He was booked into the jail less than 12 hours after the woman was found with life-threatening injuries, lying in the intersection of North Saginaw and West Rundell streets in Pontiac just after 4 a.m, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies had been dispatched to the intersection on a report that a woman in the roadway had possibly been hit by a car, the sheriff’s office said, but as it turned out her injuries were consistent with being assaulted. She suffered multiple facial fractures including her jaw and several puncture wounds to her head consistent with being stabbed, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies spoke with several homeless people at the woman’s house who said she typically left for work at 11 p.m.

Redmond’s next court date is July 19 for a probable cause conference before 50th District Judge Cynthia Walker.
