Greenville man arrested after woman found in abandoned home

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A man was arrested Tuesday after a woman’s body was found in an abandoned home in Greenville.

The Greenville Police Department charged Ricky Dick McCullough, 63, of Greenville, with the murder of Susan Elaine Donald, 69, of Greenville. He is also being charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Police said McCullough was a recent acquaintance of Donald.

We previously reported that Donald was found inside an abandoned home on South Leach Street. Her residence was also located on the same street.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be asphyxia due to strangulation.

We spoke to a woman who lives across the street from the crime scene. She says her and Donald used to talk every day.

Chapman said, “Sadness, heartbroken, shocked traumatized. Just all of the above, because I mean you know, that was auntie, that was her. That was auntie. So, for her to be gone in the manner that she went in.”

The coroner’s office says Donald’s family is tight knit, and the news was devastating to them.

“It’s obviously a hard conversation to have and even harder to say it was done at the hands of another person, but they seem to be a close family and are taking care of each other,” Deputy coroner Jenn Cason said.

McCullough was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.
