Vermont State Police have arrested two suspects during their investigation into a shooting in Saint Johnsbury that left a man with life-threatening injuries. Officials said Felipe Cotto Jr., 40,of Chicopee, Massachusetts is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Casey Jean Squires, 21, of Sheffield, Vermont, is accused of being an accessory to those same charges. Investigators say the shooting occurred in the parking lot outside of a Maplefields convenience store off of Route 2, following a dispute between Cotto and the victim, Nathan Smires, 36, of Barnet. Smires was taken to the hospital for treatment.All of the individuals involved knew each other, officials said. Police believe this is an isolated incident and say there is no danger to the public. Cotto was ordered jail without bail, and Squires was held after she was not able to put up bail.Both are due to appear for arraignment on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Johnsbury.
