Reed back in Bryson

Kirby takes over as AD

It’s hard to keep a good man down.

Former Bryson Head Football Coach Bill Reed is returning to his old haunts to coach the Cowboys in 2022. He will replace Slade Egan, who left for another job in Mineral Wells.

Reed will not be athletic director, as that position will be taken by former coach and current Principal Gary Kirby. Reed joked he was about ready to retire “permanently” from driving a bus and working in stadium operations in Springtown when he received a call June 23 about the Bryson job.

“I was surprised by the call but I never say no or never,” Reed said. “I wanted to visit and give them the opportunity to talk.”

Reed admits he’s excited to be here.

“I guess I’m not ready to retire yet,” Reed said.

Reed had been with the Texas Christian of Athletic Fellowship for six years after leaving Bryson. That organization helped him get a new emphasis with Christ, which kind of made him feel like he was leading the UIL.
