According to a Madison County Fire Rescue report, on Wednesday, June 28, at approximately 3:15 p.m. firefighters from the Madison Fire Department, Madison County Fire Rescue, volunteers from the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Florida Forest Service, were dispatched to Tadpole Circle, in western Madison County. The responding units spent nearly two hours fighting a brush fire that also torched several cars.
Six units from the various agencies converged on the large brush fire that also had multiple vehicles fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters made contact with the property owner, who stated he did not know about the fire or what could have started it. According to the report, it appeared the land was “used as a storage area for 20 to 30 vehicles (cars and pick-up trucks), two box trucks, an old school bus, and several boats.” The report states that approximately six vehicles and a boat were extinguished, with most of the vehicles fully involved and a couple only partially involved. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Crews were able to suppress the fire in order to prevent the fire from spreading further into adjoining properties.
Firefighters fought the fire until shortly after 5 p.m., when all operations were halted, due to lightning and a thunderstorm.
