CHESTERTOWN – The Board of Directors of Community Mediation Upper Shore, Inc. (CMUS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Cameron Ronayne as its new Executive Director. Ronayne succeeds Penni Walker Doyle, who will remain with CMUS on a part-time basis, serving as an advisor to Ronayne and to the Board.
Ronayne first joined CMUS in 2018 as a volunteer, applying her studies in Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution from Salisbury University. She was soon offered a position as a program coordinator with CMUS and has since been leading CMUS’ partnership efforts with Queen Anne’s County Public School (QACPS), a partnership expansion that began development in 2019.
During her time with CMUS, Ronayne has since completed her Masters’ Degree from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. Ronayne is an active mediator, who has mediated over 140 sessions in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties after completing her mediation trainings with Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). In December of 2020, Ronayne elected to participate in CMM’s performance-based evaluation for mediations and attained a level 6, the highest mediator certification than can be achieved in this process.
When Walker Doyle informed the Board of her desire to take a step back to a part-time role, the Board quickly reached the unanimous decision to offer the position to Ronayne. The Board, Walker Doyle, and CMUS’ staff have been working actively with Ronayne for the past year to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
The Board thanks Walker Doyle for her leadership, and for her many years of service to the Eastern Shore. Walker Doyle joined CMUS in 2006 as an intake coordinator and became its Executive Director in 2008.
CMUS’ partnership with the local District and Circuit Courts flourished under the leadership of Walker Doyle. Says Cynthia Jurrius, Program Director for the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) for Maryland’s Administrative Office of the Courts, “From my perspective here at MACRO, Penni has always made the Eastern Shore proud, as she is an excellent administrator who gets the job done and is also responsive to the changing needs of the community. She has a great heart for serving the underserved, and as a result, has given voice to many who would have been unheard.”
Walker Doyle has also worked closely with many other regional community mediation centers, and with Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). Jennifer Williams, Executive Director of Mid-Shore Mediation in Easton, says of Walker Doyle, “Penni's influence on the Community Mediation movement in Maryland and her incalculable contributions to Upper Shore will reverberate for many, many years to come.” Leslie Overholser, Deputy Director of CMM adds, “Penni brings a unique perspective to the mediation center work and is always willing to share her wisdom with the other center directors.”
The Board would like to express their appreciation to both Ronayne and Walker Doyle for their continued dedication to all residents of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties, and to the work of community mediation.
