Jonesboro-Hodge linebacker Xavier “Deebo” Atkins committed Tuesday to LSU one day after revoking his pledge to Missouri.

The 6-feet-1, 194-pounder impressed at a camp on LSU’s campus last month to earn an offer in the 2024 class.

The No. 16 ranked linebacker in his class was truly dominant in 13 games last season, racking 218 tackles including 28 for loss and 10 sacks plus two interceptions. Atkins was named District MVP. He is the fifth overall ranked player in Louisiana for the ’24 recruiting class by 247 Sports.

LSU defensive coordinator Matt House tabbed Atkins as worthy of an offer.Former LSU linebackers coach Blake Baker was recruiting on behalf of Missouri, who had garnered a commitment from Atkins back in February.

Atkins flies to the football, making plays sideline to sideline with explosive sub=4.5 speed. He is a vicious hitter who also is excellent in pass coverage. His maximum squat is 445 lbs. with a dead lift of 450.

LSU continues its recent recruiting momentum after securing five 2023 commitments since late last week.
