Xavier Atkins, a 3-star linebacker out of Jonesboro, Louisiana (Jonesboro-Hodge) who previously committed to Missouri, has flipped to LSU.

Atkins is the No. 6 player in the state of Louisiana, and No. 23 linebacker in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite. It came only one day after he decommitted from Missouri. Atkins is listed at 6 foot and 200 pounds.

“That was the one I always circled, and when I got it, I knew I just had to do things the right way,” Atkins told Geaux247. “Once I decommitted from Missouri, it was time to be an LSU Tiger.”

He was recruited to LSU by defensive coordinator Matt House.

“Coach House was so great to work with at camp, and coach Sherman (Wilson) helped me so much with just answering questions and being there for me whenever I called him,” said Atkins. “He always had time for me and always made me feel like I would be a Tiger.”

Atkins ran a 40-yard-dash in the 4.5-range on a bruised hip, and impressed House with 218 tackles – 28.0 for loss – and eight sacks in 13 games last season.

“Coach House told me he had seen all he needed to see after camp,” Atkins told Geaux247. “He said he just needed to get his hands on my transcript because he knew I had that little thing with my Spanish class I had to get fixed.”
