Worker dies in demolition project

Harris Equipment confirms deceased was a sub-contractor who fell to his death.

CORDELE, GA – Federal authorities are investigating a work related accident which claimed the life of a sub-contracted employee, who was preparing the site for demolition work.

D.J. Van Deusen is the President and General Manager of Harris Equipment in Cordele.

Van Deusen says the tragic and unfortunate incident happened last Wednesday, as the sub-contractor was performing demolition services in support of an in-process building renovation project.

The man, who has yet to be formally identified, reportedly plummeted to his death in a fall from a sky light area.

Van Deusen says they are fully cooperating with various agencies, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as they conduct their procedural investigation following such an incident.

Crisp County Coroner Ricky Dawson says the autopsy on the deceased is not complete.
