Man reportedly told police he stabbed elderly woman in Audubon parking lot

AUDUBON − A Philadelphia man reportedly admitted to stabbing an 82-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot over the Independence Day weekend.

"Yes I stabbed her," 40-year-old Altirik Higgins reportedly told officers as they approached him walking along the Black Horse Pike following the July 3 incident, according to an affidavit of probable cause statement made available Tuesday.

Police said they stopped him because he matched an eyewitness description.

The probable cause statement also cites surveillance video in which the suspect is seen walking toward the scene of the incident, and then walking away from it.

Higgins faces charges of attempted murder and weapons offenses in connection with the incident, which took place on the corner of West Nicholson Road and Black Horse Pike.

The charges against the man are only allegations. He has not been convicted of any crime in connection with the case.

The victim was transferring groceries to her car in the Acme store parking lot when she was stabbed multiple times with a serrated kitchen-style steak knife, according to court documents.

Acme's public relations team declined a request for comment.

The victim suffered stab wounds and lacerations in her arm, abdomen and finger. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where she is still hospitalized as of Tuesday, according to a Cooper spokesperson.

Police determined that the suspect and the stabbing victim did not know each other previously.
