Alfred “Al” Ray Hyslope Sr.

Alfred “Al” Ray Hyslope Sr., age 71, of Albia, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 2, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Al was born on August 26, 1950, in Des Moines, IA, to Charles and Daisy (Easter) Hyslope.  He married Mary Nash and they had one child, Alfred Ray Hyslope Jr.  

Al worked as an auto body repairman for many years, including owning his own shop.  Al and Mary moved to Albia in 1995.  He loved living on and caring for his farm.  He spent time outdoors: fishing, camping, hunting, riding 4-wheelers, and spending time with his family.  He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and spent much of his time doing activities with them on the farm.  Al was a person who could do anything he put his mind to. He was a convert to the Catholic faith and attended mass regularly at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  

Al is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Alfred (Jennifer) Hyslope Jr.; grandchildren, Ryan Patrick and Katelyn Rose Hyslope; brothers, Charles Hyslope and Mike Wilson; sister, Cheryl (Allan) Blue; and a sister-in-law, Laura Miner.  Al is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Daisy Hyslope; his in-laws, Keith and Suzy Nash; his brother, Fred Easter; and his brother-in-law, Larry Miner.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Al’s family present to greet family and friends. At 10:45 a.m., a Rosary will be led by Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating.  Burial will follow services at the Hiteman Cemetery in Hiteman.  

A memorial has been established to the Hiteman Cemetery.
