LAKE CHARLES, La. (BRPROUD) – Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing call on Monday night.

“While CPSO Communications deputies were on the phone with the complainant she advised there was a suspect outside the home refusing to leave,” according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

What started out as trespassing became a deadly shooting investigation for deputies.

Prior to deputies arriving at the home, a homeowner shot the suspect who was later identified as Joseph Tezeno, 21, Lake Arthur.

Tezeno “was believed to be under the influence” and attempted to enter the home at this location.

Deputies arrived at a residence on North Lake Court Dr. around 10:30 p.m. and attempted to help the shooting victim.

The 21-year-old died at the scene.

“This is a sad and tragic situation for both families involved. Mr. Tezeno was a good kid that attended college locally. Unfortunately Tezeno was believed to be under the influence and his actions, attempting to gain entry to the home more than once, caused the homeowner to fear for his life, at which time he had every right to protect his family and property,” stated Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

The investigation into this deadly shooting remains ongoing.

If anyone has video that would have been recorded around this time in that area, please call CPSO at (337) 491-3605 and ask for Detective Lauren Manuel.
