Loaded handgun found in Adams County man's carry-on at Harrisburg International Airport
The Transportation Security Administration said an officer prevented an Adams County man from taking a loaded gun on his flight out of Harrisburg International Airport on Monday.
The East Berlin resident was found with a .25 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets, along with two boxes of ammunition, the TSA said.
Police confiscated the items and detained the man for questioning. The TSA said the man faces a federal financial civil penalty.
It was the fifth gun TSA officers have detected at the airport checkpoint so far this year.
Nationwide, TSA officers detected 5,972 firearms on passengers or their carry-on bags at checkpoints last year.
Passengers may transport firearms as checked baggage if they are properly packed and declared. Details on how to properly travel with a firearm are posted on the TSA website.
