Calls for service: Multiple people booked for DUIs

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – Calls for service to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and Park City Fire District (PCFD) for the week of June 27 — July 4:

Monday (6/27):

SCSO: During a traffic stop on Sackett Dr. in Jeremy Ranch it was discovered that a 27-year-old Salt Lake City man was driving without registration and no license. The man also had several warrants for arrest and was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was arrested without incident.

SCSO: Deputies responded to a call in Wanship. Upon investigation, a cell phone video was produced that showed a 28-year-old Wanship woman placing her hands on a victim’s throat multiple times during a physical altercation a couple of days prior. She was arrested for multiple domestic violence charges. The female was transported and booked without incident.

Wednesday (6/29):

SCSO: Deputies responded to a report of a juvenile shoplifting a Lego set at Walmart in Kimball Junction. The crime was reported by store security while in progress, and the suspect juvenile was intercepted by a deputy as he left the store. The juvenile verbally admitted to the theft and the stolen Legos were located in his backpack. The 15-year-old received a juvenile court referral and his mother arrived to take custody.

SCSO: Deputies responded to an in-progress passing of counterfeit currency at Walmart. While deputies were on location at the Walmart, store security informed deputies of a juvenile male attempting to purchase Sony air pods with replica 10-dollar bills. The juvenile was confronted at the point of sale, and momentarily detained. The suspect was found to be in possession of twenty-four, 10-dollar bills that were marked as replicas, and all had the same serial number. While waiting for their parents to arrive, the 12-year-old juvenile admitted that he got the counterfeit bills from a friend who had made a successful fraudulent purchase the day before with the same currency. The past occurred fraud is currently under investigation by deputies. The suspect received a juvenile court referral and his mother arrived to take custody.

Thursday (6/30):

SCSO: Deputies responded to a wrong-way driver on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 146. The caller stated that a red vehicle was driving eastbound in the westbound lane. A red vehicle was located in the eastbound lane (right direction) traveling in the middle of the road and swerving from one side to the other. A traffic stop was initiated as the driver did not stop and continued to evade the deputies. The driver got off the highway and crashed the vehicle as he drove off the road on Echo Dam Rd. The 38-year-old man from Daytona Beach, Florida was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was booked into the Summit County Jail for felony fleeing, DUI, reckless driving, and other traffic violations. It is unknown if this was the same red vehicle originally reported to be driving in the wrong direction.

Friday (7/1):

SCSO: Deputies responded to the Holiday Inn for a disorderly. Deputies arrived and spoke with the complainant. The complainant stated his ex-girlfriend, a 33-year-old Kearns woman, came to the Holiday Inn and started to yell at him. The ex-girlfriend has an active protective order against the complainant. The complainant stated the ex-girlfriend was trying to get him to go home with her. The complainant stated the ex-girlfriend left the Holiday Inn shortly before deputies arrived. Contact was attempted with the ex-girlfriend but was unsuccessful. The case will be screened to the County Attorney for charges.

SCSO: Deputies observed a suspicious vehicle parked behind Home Depot after closing hours. The vehicle attempted to evade deputies but was located a short time later and a traffic stop was conducted. While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, a glass pipe was located in plain view. A vehicle search yielded methamphetamine, heroin, prescription narcotics, credit cards that did not belong to the driver or passenger, and merchandise from several Home Depots in Salt Lake and Summit Counties that were found to be suspicious. The passenger was released, and the driver, a 38-year-old Vernal man, was booked into jail.

Saturday (7/2):

SCSO: Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Karl Malone Chevrolet. The victim’s vehicle was being sold on consignment and was left parked outside the business. The vehicle is a vintage Jeep with a tow bar. It is possible the vehicle was hooked to a hitch and towed away. There is no video surveillance and no suspect information. The vehicle was listed in NCIC and the victim was provided a case number.

SCSO: A report of a disorderly male was called in at the Newpark Hotel. The male was yelling profanity and hitting the window of a taxi. The male was contacted and determined to be intoxicated. Witnesses and evidence supported disorderly conduct. The male was also concealing a handgun and knife while intoxicated. The 50-year-old Park City man was arrested without incident.

SCSO: Deputies responded to an injury crash on Promontory Ranch Rd involving a single motorcycle. The driver, a 44-year-old Park City man, was transported to a hospital for minor injuries and his motorcycle was towed at his request. A crash report was completed.

SCSO: A male was reported to be on acid and attempting to drive away with his infant daughter. Upon arrival, the male was extremely belligerent and would not follow commands of deputies. The 22-year-old Farmington man was subsequently arrested and booked into jail.

Sunday (7/3):

SCSO: Deputies responded to Jeremy Ranch on a report of an unconscious male. The complainant stated his 37-year-old adult son had been in his room for several days and he believed he had been consuming alcohol while in his room. The father tried knocking on the door and got no response; he forced the door open and found his son sitting in a chair, cold to the touch. Medical arrived and confirmed that the 37-year-old was deceased. Due to the circumstances, the on-call detective and the on-call OME responded. The deceased was transported to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner.

SCSO: Deputies responded to Juniper Campground on a report of a mother fighting with her daughter. Upon arrival, a 34-year-old Ogden woman was found to be intoxicated and unable to care for herself. It was reported by the daughter that at one point the Ogden woman “underhand tossed” an ax in her direction. There were no witnesses to this incident and no physical evidence. The daughter’s father arrived and took custody of her and her younger brother. The 34-year-old woman was arrested for intoxication. Charges of aggravated assault will be screened with the County Attorney’s Office.

SCSO: Deputies were dispatched on a report of a past occurred gunshot wound in Brown’s Canyon. Upon arrival, it was determined that the involved individual, a 24-year-old Kamas man, had been struck in the right shin area by multiple fragments of a possible bullet, during a night of heavy drinking with a friend.  The complainant reported that his friend shot his 9mm handgun into a brick floor, causing one or more bullet fragments to ricochet and hit the complainant’s leg. The incident occurred on June 25 at approximately 2:00 a.m. The complainant did not seek medical care until the following Monday. At the time he went to the clinic it could not be determined what had struck the complainant in the leg. This case will be sent to investigations for follow-up.

SCSO: Deputies responded to two intoxicated individuals in the resort area. The individuals were married and were staying at the Sundial Hotel. Deputies released the individuals and instructed them to return to their room for the night. Deputies monitored the individuals as they returned to the Sundial. While entering the hotel, the 36-year-old Murray man pushed his wife to the ground.  The man was arrested and booked on multiple charges.

SCSO: The manager of Yotelpad reported two individuals trespassing several times throughout the day; however, the couple kept returning and loitering on the property. Each time an employee would attempt contact, the suspects would run away. Deputies responded and spent a lengthy amount of time trying to locate the suspects, who would run away and hide when deputies or employees got within their vicinity. Deputies located the female, a 35-year-old Fort Duchesne woman, who provided false information and resisted arrest when being taken into custody. The male, a 39-year-old Roosevelt man, was later located. The male left without incident when deputies arranged for his car to be towed off the property. The female was taken into custody on a warrant and new charges.

SCSO: The owner of a black Tesla on W Fox Hollow Ln in Kimball Junction was advised by a neighbor that his vehicle had been broken into as his front passenger window had been broken out. It was then found the only thing to be missing from the vehicle was a pickleball bag. Due to no witnesses, nor video footage, there is no suspect information at this time.

Monday (7/4):

SCSO: A purse theft occurred between 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Utah Olympic Park.  The victim left her purse on a rack by a ride.  An unknown suspect removed the bag from the rack. The bag was later found on the floor of the women’s restroom with a driver license and two credit cards stolen.  Security camera footage is unknown at this point.  The case will be referred to Investigations.

SCSO: A 66-year-old Heber man and 58-year-old Heber woman were both arrested and booked on DUI. The woman was driving west on Lower River Road and lost control of the vehicle on a curve and crashed the vehicle in a ditch. After the vehicle was crashed, the man got in the driver seat and attempted to get the vehicle unstuck. A firearm was taken from the man while on scene. The man and woman were both arrested for DUI and taken to the hospital for clearance. After both cleared, they were booked into the Summit County Jail.

PCFD: Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Rothwell Road. The firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly. The fire was contained to the exterior and there was no extention to the interior of the home. All occupants are safe. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
