The Labour leader Keir Starmer campaigned passionately for the UK to remain in the EU. He even flaunted the idea of a second EU referendum around. While Starmer knew that reversing Brexit was nothing short of impossible, he shocked everyone in a speech he delivered at the Centre for European Reform (CER) on Monday.

Keir Starmer’s pledge to “make Brexit work” differs significantly from Labour’s position two and a half years ago.

“There are some who say ‘We don’t need to make Brexit work. We need to reverse it. I couldn’t disagree more. Because you cannot move forward or grow the country or deliver change or win back the trust of those who have lost faith in politics if you’re constantly focused on the arguments of the past,” said Keir Starmer.

Starmer made it clear that under Labour, “Britain will not go back into the EU.”

Starmer now clashes with Stella Creasy and Sadiq Khan on Brexit as those keep telling the electorate that they would rejoin the EU.

“We are only just beginning to understand damage Brexit is doing to Britain so we urge Keir to make sure nothing is off the table as a solution in the fight to tackle the cost of living crisis and protect jobs, trade and security,” Creasy said after Starmer offered the five-point plan for post Brexit Britain.
